Abstract
We present a novel multi-agent architecture ranging from lower layer device agents over cluster agents, acting as organizational units, to aggregator agents trading on flexibility market platforms. This architecture will allow inter-district flexibility trading and will therefore be a key building block for large-scale integration of renewable energy. As electrical grids are critical infrastructure, properties such as reliability
and robustness of the system are of great importance. To tackle this challenge, we propose a generic application layer messaging system enabling robust and scalable communication in Smart Grids.

The ITU-T G.9960 Broadband PLC Communication Concept for SmartGrid Applications

Abstract
The main-requirement for the Smart Grid applications is the integration of smart metering systems into a reliable and economically attractive communication infrastructure. Powerline is the key technology for IP-based data communication via existing power line networks. In this paper, a robust communication stack for the expected smart grid functionality will be developed based on different PLC technologies (G3-PLC or Broadband PLC). These will be required for future-oriented applications such as smart metering, grid monitoring and RES/Loads/Storage agent’s integration in the future Smart Grid. The transport protocols will be TCP/IP or UDP/IP or Web based method and will for example be orientated to the new IEC 61850-8-1 (MMS over http) for the RES control agents and IETF RFC 6120 XMPP for the energy flexibility management. The paper also focuses on EMC aspects to be considered for PLC roll-outs in the European market in different frequency ranges.

01.07.2016 – EU-funded project „CALLIA“ launched. Transnational integration of Renewable Energies into the European electricity grid.
Constance, July 1st, 2016 – Europe’s ambitious climate protection goals require a safe and comprehensive integration of Renewable Energies on all voltage levels of the electricity grid. Currently, cross-border transmission of electricity is limited to the high voltage grid.
